Courtney – Spa of hope

Courtney suffers a rare hereditary chromosome abnormality which severely limits her movement and function. One thing that can help is a customised spa bath.

Although physically the size of a four year old, Courtney is over 10 years old and a big fan of Kylie Minogue. When first diagnosed, Courtney’s life expectancy was only two to three years, and she has already lost two of her relatives to this condition. Prone to dangerous seizures, Courtney requires 24 hour care, is confined to a wheelchair, and needs help with everything. Not able to communicate, Courtney sleeps with a seizure monitor and carers must be alert to watch for seizures. She needs an oxygen tank with her at all times and receives medical treatment every four months.

To help give Courtney’s body much needed sensory stimulation and create an enjoyable activity, the Steve Waugh Foundation funded a specially-equipped outdoor spa.

In an extremely demanding routine, the spa has become a symbol of hope for the family. It is something they can all enjoy together. Courtney loves being in the warm water with the sun and wind on her face.
