STEVE WAUGH EXPRESS HITS
THE RAILS
A motley crew of Steve Waugh Foundation supporters in fancy
dress descended on Central Station in Sydney on Saturday 22nd of May
2010. Dressed in clothing from the 1930’s, 1940’s and 1950’s they boarded the
Steve Waugh Express bound for beautiful Robertson in the Southern Highlands.
Hosted by Foundation Patrons, Gary and Kerry Johnston, the
120 guests or so were treated to songs from The Martini Sisters and a morning
tea on the 4 hour journey.
At Robertson station, guests disembarked the train for lunch
at Fountaindale Grand Manor. A sumptuous country spread was served while guests
were entertained by Victoria Hodgkinson.
Steve Waugh got
up to speak about the Foundation and his charitable work and at the end of what
was a really enjoyable day, raffle prizes were drawn and a live auction was held
for a ‘money can’t buy’ experience with former World 500cc Motorcycle Champion
Wayne Gardner.
The Steve Waugh Foundation would like to thank hosts Gary
and Kerry Johnston as well as all of the guests attending on the day who helped
us raise over $20,000 for the Foundation. An amazing effort!
“It
was wonderful to work on such a fabulous fundraiser. Everyone dressed in period
costume and swayed to the tunes of the 40’s while steaming ahead on the 3642
locomotive. More importantly we raised over $20 000 which, at the very least,
will buy an electronic wheelchair for a child. We hope to do this event bi-
annually. It’s a wonderful way to bring attention to the Steve Waugh
Foundation so people can become more aware of this worthy
cause.”
